Brock and I traveled to Sydney, Australia and all along the south island of New Zealand for our honeymoon. The trip was absolutely amazing! We got to experience the Opera House, botanical gardens, Blue Mountains, kangaroos and koalas at the Featherdale Wilflife Park, hot air balloon riding, jet boating, heli-hiking on Fox Glacier and wine and cheese tasting. To top it off, we also decided to brave the tallest bungee swing in the world! Check out the video slideshow of our trip at http://lhaws.com/video.

One thing I love about summer is fresh produce and local farmer's markets. Last year I was inspired by my mother to grow my own square foot garden in Boston. For my first time growing a garden in the city and without mom's help, it was very successful. Looks like she taught me well.
Today was a beautiful day in Boston with temperatures in the mid 70s so I decided it was time to begin planting seeds in my garden for the new season. This year I will be growing green bush beans, green pole beans, yellow onions, red onions, cucumbers, radishes, carrots, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and green peppers. Let's see how things go!

We are now at the end of Week 14 of the Gonyo Fitness Challenge (Round 2). Since the last post, I have lost an additional 4.0 lbs. My total weight loss for Round 2 of this challenge is now up to 8.6 lbs, which is equal to 6.0%. How's everyone else doing? Hopefully the nice weather hasn't altered anyone's healthy eating habits too much and that you are all still on track for reaching your desired weight loss goal.
Please keep in mind that next week will complete Round 2 of the Gonyo Fitness Challenge. Unless someone's been holding back and not telling us about all their wonderful progress, it looks like Uncle Bobby is in the lead with Aunt Penny not too far behind!

After watching the Boston Marathon today, I felt obligated to go for a run when I got home. Although it came no where close to 26.2 miles, I did go for a nice 5.73 mile run around Fresh Pond in Cambridge, MA. The weather was perfect and it felt great!

Today I watched the Boston Marathon with Tracy, Kristi, Cate and Carla. We had a great time and were truly inspired by all of the runners that had the strength and will power to complete 26.2 miles.
June I will be running my first half marathon in Boston. This will be a big step for me since the longest race I've completed to date is the Tufts Women's 10K. Depending on how it goes, maybe I'll start training for the Boston Marathon for next year. It would be such an amazing accomplishment to be able to say that I ran a marathon, and what better marathon to run than the Boston Marathon! I guess we'll have to see how things go.

Last time I was in Malone, Claire and I decided to try some bruschetta recipes from Cook's Illustrated. We made two types of bruschetta: (1) bruschetta with sauteed sweet peppers and (2) bruschetta with arugula, red onions & rosemary-white bean spread. Both turned out pretty good, but the bruschetta with the bean spread was definitely my favorite (recipe below). I would highly recommend it.
Bruschetta with Arugula, Red Onions & Rosemary-White Bean Spread
Ingredients
1 loaf country bread, about 12 by 5", cut crosswise into 1" think pieces
1 large clove garlic, peeled
1 can (15 oz) cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 small clove garlic, crushed
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp chopped fresh rosemary
1 tbsp balsamic vingegar
1/4 medium red onion, thinly sliced (approx. 1/4 cup)
2 oz arugula (1 small bunch), wash, dried, and cut into 1/2 strips (approx. 4 cups)
InstructionsAdjust oven rack to about 4 inches from heating element and heat broiler; broil bread slices until golden brown on both sides. Brush both sides of each slice with oil and rub with garlic clove.
In food processor, process 2/3 of beans, 2 tablespoons oil, 2 tablespoons water, lemon juice, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper until smooth, about 10 seconds. Add remaining beans and rosemary; pulse until incorporated but not smooth, about five 1-second pulses.
Whisk remaining 1 tablespoon oil, vinegar, remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, and remaining 1/8 teaspoon pepper in medium bowl; add onion and toss.
Divide bean spread evenly among bread slices. Toss arugula with onions until coated, then top bread slices with portion of onions and arugula; serve immediately.

Week 10 of the Gonyo Fitness Challenge (Round 2) has come to an end (and spring has just begun despite the weather). This week I didn't lose any weight, but I am still optimistic that my luck will turn around next week. Yesterday started the BURN Challenge at my gym so hopefully that will help me reach my weight loss goal and I will see some results for Week 11.
How did everyone else do this week?
